Supporting the Veteran and Warfighter

This lecture will introduce the physician to the medical impact of the unique work environments, biomechanics, and ergonomics of military service on the warfighter and veteran. OMT techniques and home exercises that are applicable regardless of medical specialty will be reviewed and demonstrated.

Learning Objectives:

• Discuss how the warfighters work environment (biomechanics/ergonomics) impacts their musculoskeletal system and creates somatic dysfunction.
• Discuss the long-term impact on Veterans from prior service-related work environments and injuries.
• Discuss how OMT can be used to support veterans and active duty/reserve soldiers, airmen, sailors, and guardians, and keep them in peak performance.
• Describe, review, and demonstrate how OMT can be used to keep the warfighter working when they have MSK issues without having to take them off duty status.
• Describe and evaluate common muscular imbalances that contribute to somatic dysfunction.
