Description

COVID has impacted everyone in a major way.  Patients and clinicians are not only impacted by the virus itself, but also the psychosocial components that are related to the changes in daily routine, lifestyle and quality of life.  This presentation will look at the major impacts that COVID has had on patients and providers and will discuss interventions to help manage stress and successfully navigate this challenging time.

Learning Objectives

  • Describe the psychosocial impact that the COVID pandemic has had on patients and providers.
  • Define COVID fatigue and describe how it can impact mental, social and physical health if not addressed.
  • Discern how chronic stress of dealing with the COVID pandemic can impact physician manifestations such as obesity and mental health disorders.
  • Identify pharmacologic and behavioral modifications that can be employed to help navigate through the challenges of COVID.
  • Identify behavioral health resources to help both patients and providers manage the psychosocial components of adjusting to the current environment. 

The NC Osteopathic Medical Association (NCOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Medical Association to provide continuing medical education to physicians.  NCOMA designates this program for a maximum of .75 AOA Category 1-A credit and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Tiffany Lowe-Payne is an assistant professor of Family Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine at the Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine.   A board certified family physician of over 15 years, she is also a national speaker, author, Founder & CEO of the Institute of Transformational Health & Wellness Inc.™, as well as an on-air health expert as it relates to various issues seen in primary care.

In addition to being on faculty at CUSOM, Dr. Lowe Payne Tiffany currently practices in Raleigh, North Carolina, with WakeMed Physician Practices. She is a graduate of the Rowan University of Osteopathic Medicine– SOM.  Dr. Lowe Payne currently serves on the Board of Trustees of NCS-ACOFP and NCOMA. 

Speaker reported serving on Speaker's Bureau for NovoNordisk related to obesity management; however, the relationship did not present a conflict for this lecture.
