First presented at the FOMA 2024 Live Convention. FOMA is proud to offer this on-demand CME presentation as Michael Wolford, DO, FACOI, MRO identifies Lyme Disease and the procedure after a tick bite implications in the primary care setting. Following this presentation, attendees shall be able to:

  • Identify where Lyme disease is endemic in Florida.
  • Describe the procedure when a patient presents after a tick bite.
  • Identify when Lyme disease post-exposure prophylaxis is appropriate.
  • Describe the recommended medication regimen for Lyme disease post-exposure prophylaxis.
  • Explain how to counsel patients about tick bite prevention.
  • Describe your role as a member of the inter-professional team managing a patient with Lyme disease.

Michael Wolford, DO, FACOI, MRO is a 1990 graduate of Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in Stratford, New Jersey and Kennedy Memorial Hospital Systems and Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey. Dr. Wolford completed his medical internship at Millcreek Community Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. Currently, Dr. Wolford is Lead Physician in the Emergency Department for West Palm Beach Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida.  While at the West Palm Beach VA Medical Center, Dr. Wolford provides employee health and occupational medicine and has served as Section Chief of Employee Health Services, since 2022. He served as the Interim and Assistant Chief over the past 4 years of the Emergency Department.  He is certified in emergency medicine and internal medicine and is a member of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association (FOMA), the American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians (ACOEP), the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI) and the American Association of Physicians (AAP). Dr. Wolford has been in practice for more than 20 years and has received the “Heroes in Medicine and International Humanitarian” Award by the Palm Beach County Medical Society for ongoing medical missions work in many third world countries.
