Description

Venomous Insect Bites and Stings

Overview of venomous insect bites and stings, including spider, scorpions, wasps, bees and mites.

Objectives:

  • Understand envenomation apparatus of various insects
  • Understand treatment for venomous insect bites/stings
  • Understand prevention of venomous bites/stings

Sex After Menopause

In this interactive session, participants will learn and discuss the impact of menopause on their patients and how to help manage the transition in regards to their sex life. Dr. Holbrook will discuss the sexual hierarchy of needs and give participants a four-step approach to managing sex issues that can arise in the period before, during, and after menopause.

Objectives:

  • Identify the five (5) stages of the sexual hierarchy of needs
  • Demonstrate shared decision making with a patient regarding their sexual needs
  • Understand three (3) impacts menopause commonly has on patient's sex life.

Statement of Accreditation
The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. TOMA designates is program for a maximum of 1.75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Dr. Rob Allen is an Assistant Professor in the CASE Department at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine.  He earned his undergraduate degrees at UC Irvine, and his DO at COMP/Western University.  He did his Residency in Emergency Medicine at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center/Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Allen served in the US Air Force for 26 years and has practiced medicine on 5 Continents.  He has served on the Board of Directors of the Wilderness Medical Society, and was on the Editorial Board of Wilderness Medicine, the WMS journal, for 10 years.  Dr. Allen’s interests include Wilderness Medicine, Disaster Medicine and Operational/Tactical Medicine.

Dr. Celeste Holbrook is a sex educator, speaker, and a small-town Texas horse girl who helps people achieve pleasurable, connective sex through mental and behavioral changes. She diffuses the sensitive topic of sex through direct language and a knack for making the awkward approachable. She has a Ph.D. in Health Education from Texas Woman's University and a virtual practice where she delivers sex education and coaching to couples and individuals. Celeste believes everyone deserves to define pleasure for themselves, inside and outside of their bedroom.
