This introductory session provides primary care providers with essential knowledge and practical skills for managing acute and chronic wounds. Participants will also learn when to refer patients to wound care specialists. By the session's end, attendees will feel more confident in wound care management and understand available resources for advanced cases.

Objectives:

  • Learn to classify wounds (acute, chronic, venous, arterial, diabetic) and understand the four stages of wound healing (hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, remodeling).
  • Master evidence-based wound care practices, including proper cleaning, debridement, dressing selection, and strategies for infection prevention.
  • Identify signs of non-healing wounds and determine when to refer patients to wound care specialists for advanced treatment.
