Dr. Amanda Brownell is the medical director of the Spurwink Center for Safe and Healthy Children. She is a fellowship-trained and board-certified child abuse pediatrician. Dr. Brownell completed her pediatric residency training at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. She then completed her child abuse pediatrics fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Her training has led to expertise in diagnosing child physical and sexual abuse. She also provides support for physicians throughout the state to help differentiate accidental injuries from abuse. She is the vice-chair of the Maine Child Death and Serious Injury Review Panel. She has also provided valuable education to medical providers, children’s services workers, social workers, and law enforcement in both Maine and Ohio. As a clinical assistant professor at the Tufts University School of Medicine, and the director of the pediatric advocacy program at Maine Medical Center she is educating Maine’s next generation of physicians to care for the most vulnerable of children.
