Caitlin Pedati, MD, MPH, FAAP


 

Caitlin Pedati, M.D., is the Medical Director of the Iowa Department of Public Health.  She serves as the medical advisor to the department, medical professionals and the public.  She is the state epidemiologist for Iowa. Dr. Pedati grew up in the northern Virginia area and attended Georgetown University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Human Sciences and a Certificate in Population Health.  She earned her medical doctorate and a master’s degree in public health with a focus on epidemiology through a dual degree program at the George Washington University.  She completed a residency with a certificate in Global Child Health at the Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C.  She is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. After seeing common health problems among her patients, and driven by a desire to have a broader impact, she joined the CDC’s Epidemic Intelligence Service Which, for the first time in her life, took her west of the Mississippi River to Nebraska.  She served as a medical epidemiologist for the Nebraska Dept. of Health and Human Services prior to joining the Iowa Dept. of Public Health.
