Cynthia Mayer, DO, FACOI


Cynthia Mayer, DO, completed her DO degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Sun Coast Osteopathic Hospital and her Infectious Disease fellowship at the University of South Florida Morsani College Of Medicine. She is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases. Dr. Mayer has been elected a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists. She has an academic appointment as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of South Florida Morsani College Of Medicine.  Dr. Mayer joined Infectious Disease Associates of Tampa Bay in 1993. Dr. Mayer is active at Tampa General Hospital having served as both the vice chief and chief of the Department of Internal Medicine, and currently as a member of the Antimicrobial Stewardship program and the Infection Prevention Committee.  She was the Medical Director of the Primary Care Unit from 2003 - 2018. At Kindred Hospital Central Tampa, she is a longstanding member of the Medical Executive Committee, the Infection Prevention Committee, and P & T Committee. She is the Medical Director of Pinellas Care Clinic and Medical Director of the St. Joseph's Comprehensive Research Institute where she works diligently to advance knowledge through cutting edge research. Her areas of interest include: HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C and Hepatitis C/HIV coinfection, solid organ transplant and orthopedic infectious diseases, infections in chronically ill patients, and research.
