Emily Copel, DO


Dr. Copel was born and raised on Long Island and attended Indiana University Bloomington obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Applied Health Science in Health Education with a focus on secondary teaching. She did an international teaching program and student taught in Glasgow Scotland at Hillhead High School just prior to graduating in May of 2002. In July 2001 she joined the Greenlawn Fire Department as an Emergency Medical Technician and Class A fire fighter.  During her 13 years in the volunteer fire department Dr. Copel obtained her EMT- CC certification, became an American Heart Association CPR instructor and a Suffolk county EMS instructor.  After graduating she returned to Long Island and worked as a Health teacher before deciding to return to school to become a physician. During the three and a half years of her post baccalaureate studies she worked for New York Presbyterian EMS in New York City working in Washington Heights. Dr. Copel went on to attend NYITCOM and graduated in 2011. After graduation Dr. Copel completed a Traditional Osteopathic Internship at Southampton Hospital in Southampton, NY then a Family Medicine Residency at Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, NY and finally a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Care medicine at Jamaica Hospital in Jamaica, NY. She is currently an attending physician on the Palliative Care team at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital in NY. In addition, she is a Hospitalist at Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, NY, Flushing Hospital Emergency Department and GoHealth Urgent Care. Dr. Copel is also currently studying Biomedical Ethics and is a candidate for a Masters in Biomedical Ethics at Einstein School of Medicine in NY.
