Frank Dowling, MD


Frank Dowling, MD, MSSNY Assistant Treasurer, is board certified in psychiatry and addiction medicine and Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook.  They are the Medical Advisor to POPPA (Police Organization Providing Peer Assistance), a confidential voluntary non-departmental assistance program for NYPD Officers, a Consultant to the Stony Brook World Trade Center Health Program.  Medical Director for the Association for Mental Health and Wellness.  They are active in the APA, ASAM, GLMA-Health Professionals Advancing LGBTQ Health Equity, the AMA and MSSNY and currently serve as a MSSNY Delegate to the AMA, on the AMA’s Substance Use and Pain Care Task Force and AMA LGBTQ Advisory Committee, now serving as Immediate Past Chair, and the MSSNY Physician Wellness and Resilience Committee.  Dr. Dowling has a private practice in Garden City and Islandia NY which specializes in the care of emergency responders, physicians, and other healthcare professionals. From lessons learned assisting peer support agencies for emergency responders and veterans, they have long believed that a voluntary confidential peer support program is essential for physician wellness and to reduce physician suicide.
