Guy Cousins


Guy has been in the social work, counseling, and education fields for nearly 40 years. He is a native Mainer from Aroostook County, having received my Bachelors of Science degree from the University of Maine at Fort Kent. Guy has a Masters of Social Work from the University of Dundee, Dundee, Scotland.

He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and a Certified Clinical Supervisor. Guy has had a wide variety of exciting work experiences having lived and practiced in Italy, Scotland & the United States. He has worked in a variety of settings; school based, community based, residential, and hospital based services. Guy has worked with adults, children, adolescents, couples & families. He has worked for nonprofit, state, and federal social services agencies and have been active in building continuums of services for people of all ages and needs. Guy is a former member of the Board of Alcohol &Drug Counselors and served as both Vice Chair and Complaint Officer during my tenure.

Guy is also the former Director of the State of Maine Office of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services and served as the Single State Authority for Substance Abuse Services for 7 years and served concurrently as the Single State Authority for Mental Health Services for 3 years.

Guy is a full time Lecturer at the University of Maine at Augusta since the fall of September 2015. In 2018, he became the Director of the Medical Professionals Health Program. The MPHP, which is part of the Maine Medical Association, works with medical health professionals who may be affected by mental health and substance use problems. Guy is active in the community serving on various Boards and Commissions and coach high school sports at a local school system.
