Hunter Sweet, DO


Hunter Sweet, DO, is an adult neurologist who cares for patients with acute neurological conditions that require hospitalization (neurohospitalist). This includes severe and potentially life-threatening conditions such as ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes; refractory seizures; autoimmune neuropathy with paralysis; paraneoplastic syndromes; autoimmune attacks of the spinal cord; limbic encephalitis; malignant cerebral edema (brain swelling); myasthenia crisis; and severe attacks of multiple sclerosis. His practice aims to provide emergent assessments and treatment to patients who require speed to reduce disability. Dr. Sweet serves patients at MaineGeneral Medical Center, as the medical director of its nationally accredited stroke program, and has prior experience in this role. He also serves as medical director of MGMC's neurophysiology lab.

Dr. Sweet's greatest desire is for the development of an integrated system of acute neurological care throughout Maine involving a higher level of resource sharing, communication, and cooperation between various small and large hospitals, in order to provide the best care possible for every patient.
