Pediatric Urology Undergraduate Student Researcher

  • Working closely with a pediatric urologist and fellow on the study of Prenatal Hydronephrosis to determine an anterior-posterior diameter (APD) cut-off measurement after birth on renal ultrasounds at which it is safe to exempt patients from follow-up diagnostic imaging
  • Ability to interpret patient charts, and diagnostic imaging such as ultrasounds, VCUG, and MAG of kidneys to determine hydronephrosis, SFU grade, and APD
  • Utilize SPSS statistical software as a novel way to predict outcome of these patients
  • Additional projects include determining preoperative factors that will indicate the outcome of the testes following an Orchidopexy and a case report regarding malignant schwannoma

Brigader

  • Volunteered in Nicaragua and set up a free 3-day health clinic. Health stations included were general consultations, obstetrics and gynecology consultation and procedures, dental consultations and procedures, pharmacy, and children’s Charla. Over the span of 3 days, 754 patients were seen.
  • Assisted physicians in triaging patients by taking patient medical history, symptoms, and vital signs: blood pressure, temperature, height, and weight. Assisted physicians in procedures in the obstetrics and gynecology and dental stations: pap smears, teeth extractions, and cavity filling.
  • As a part of the Global Brigade’s holistic model, brigaders assisted with digging trenches for Global Water Brigades.
