James Colquitt, PhD


Dr. Colquitt is an Associate Professor and Assistant Dean for Medical Simulation and Competency-Based Education at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Monroe, Louisiana. With a diverse background and extensive experience in academia and medical practice, he strives to advance the field of Medical Simulation and Gaming.

Dr. Colquitt holds a PhD in Workforce Development from the University of Georgia, a Master of Education from Georgia College and State University, and a Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy from Georgia State University. He has dedicated the past decade to full-time work in academia, demonstrating his commitment to advancing medical education.

Throughout his career, Dr. Colquitt has made significant grassroots contributions to medical simulation and education in his local area, working to connect research with academic practice on a shoestring budget. He has been instrumental in the development of multiple medical simulation programs, doubling the utilization of simulation labs across seven residency programs, and establishing a comprehensive simulation curriculum spanning three campuses. His innovative approach to educational experiences has engaged clinicians and fostered behavior change. Notably, he has served as an Associate Dean of Medical Education at Mercer University School of Medicine, Designated Institutional Official in a new residency program, and Director of Clinical Education Respiratory Therapy.

Dr. Colquitt has published in the areas of resuscitation team training, Team-STEPPS, and mastery learning. His work currently focuses on building student generated research programs to provide more fundamental research experience for medical students before they enter residency.

Today, Dr. James Colquitt will be sharing his expertise on "Competency-based education for the osteopathic physician with rural and urban practices." His dedication to patient safety and training at the individual, team, and organizational levels is evident in his extensive knowledge and experience.
