James M. Mitchell DO, FACOEP was born in Biloxi, MS. He received at BA from Baylor University and his DO degree from the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983. He practiced emergency medicine for 25 years in Mississippi, Tennessee, and Oklahoma. After leaving the ER he practiced wound care and hyperbaric medicine for 2 years before moving to Texas and working at the VA in Waco. He currently is on the faculty at William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Sciences in the Department of Family Medicine. In addition to his faculty position he has a part- time addiction medicine practice in Gulfport, MS. 

He has 4 children scattered across the country and 6 grandchildren. His hobbies including fishing and boating, reading, and snow skiing.  In addition, he has gotten involved in competing in triathlons and is training to run his first marathon. He is very involved in medical missions and currently takes Carey medical students on medical mission trips to the Dominican Republic and Haiti through Mission of Hope.
