Jennifer Heyl, Ph.D., HEC-C


Dr. Jennifer Heyl is the Executive Director of Ethics at Mercy Health System based in Chesterfield, Missouri. She started at Mercy in 2002, and her key areas of responsibility have included ethics consultation, education, and policy review and development. Initially, this was for the Mercy East Communities. She now leads a team of seven ethicists across Mercy's four-state Health System. In all of these areas, Dr. Heyl focuses on identifying and training others to identify potential ethical issues early to prevent them from escalating to real ethical concerns. She taught in the St. Louis University Graduate Program in Health Care Ethics and undergraduate ethics, philosophy, and medical humanities at Presbyterian College, Georgetown College, and the University of Tennessee. Dr. Heyl holds a Doctorate of Philosophy with a medical ethics concentration from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
