Jolene Smith, DO
Dr. Smith is a pain medicine physician who is board certified in both pain medicine and anesthesiology by the American Board of Anesthesiology. She holds medical licensure in Iowa and Minnesota and serves as a consultant for Boston Scientifi, Medtronic, Abbott, and Regenexx. Her professional interests include interventions such as spinal cord stimulation, intrathecal pump placement, and cannabinoids. She is firmly committed to educating students, colleagues, and the community about pain management–to this end, she successfully spearheaded an initiative at Mercy Hospital to create a lecture series about pain management.
Dr. Smith is also an Adjunct Associate Professor at Des Moines University and has co-developed an elective course for health professions students about pain management and addiction medicine; they are currently teaching the second cohort enrolled in this course. She has been interested in cannabinoids as therapies for pain since 2015 - to that end she has earned a graduate certificate in Cannabis Medicine from Thomas Jefferson University and has plans to pursue a master’s degree in the same field.
