Kris Peterson, MD

COL (RET) Kris Peterson graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1987 and graduated from the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences in 1991. Dr.  Peterson did his internship, residency and fellowship in Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center completing his fellowship in 1997.  In 1998 he was assigned to Madigan Army Medical Center and started a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Service.  In 2003 he deployed to Iraq with the 98th Combat Stress Control Detachment and was attached to the 101st Airborne Division.  Upon returning from deployment to Iraq he became Chief of the Department of Psychiatry at Madigan Army Medical Center from 2004 until 2011.  Her served the military in many capacities, including the pilot, design and implementation of a strategic center focused on Military Children and Adolescents.  Dr. Peterson oversaw the building of behavioral health services at Madigan and in the Western Command Region for the delivery of care and the design of processes to assist wounded Soldiers.  He has authored and co-authored scientific papers and authored book chapters on Military Families and on Soldiers returning from combat. The recipient of several awards and honors, he now works for the Department of Defense as a staff adult and child and adolescent psychiatrist at Joint Base Lewis McChord as well as a civilian psychiatric consultant to the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority. He works private practice under his PLLC Touchstone Life Center in Lakewood Washington.  He continues to champion issues for veterans and their families as well as for underserved mental health populations. He is the Chair for Washington State MyVA program and consults to organizations focusing on Veterans issues.
