Lori Beireis, DO

I completed my Osteopathic degree from Des Moines University in 2003 and entered Internal medicine training at UIHC. In 2006 I became one of the first Hospitalists at Mercy hospital in Iowa City and helped to develop the service which now cares for more than 75% of hospitalized patients in either a direct attending or consultative role. I actively hold roles on the patient care and safety, collegue wellness, and medical executive committees. I had the pleasure of admitting and caring for the first diagnosed Covid-19 patient in Iowa and since my team and I have been the primary care providers for the COVID population including co-management with intensivists if patients require mechanical ventilation. As an active participant in the COVID task force I’ve helped develop protocols and educate staff on updated treatment guidelines. I’ve had a front line view of the toll the pandemic has taken on patients, families, and each and every care provider.
