Melissa Petrick, MS, APRN, FNP-C

Melissa Petrick is a registered nurse with over 18 years of practice in a myriad of health care settings.  She obtained her BSN and MS degrees from the University of Arizona College of Nursing in 2002 and 2004.  Bedside experience includes primary care, acute care, chronic disease management, and outpatient care.  Melissa has had a unique career with a blend of nursing practice within in-patient, out-patient, academia, research, telemedicine, as well as educational and business experience in the pharmaceutical industry.  In 2018, she obtained her post-masters family nurse practitioner (FNP) certificate from Grand Canyon University.  As an FNP, she has had experience in both adult and pediatric primary care settings.  Melissa’s most recent endeavor includes her current position as a Community Medical Liaison in the respiratory therapeutic area as well as adjunct faculty at Grand Canyon University’s College of Nursing.  She is passionate about ongoing health care quality improvement, both as an individual and organization, collaborative practice between all facets of healthcare, empowering providers and patients with knowledge to enable patients to serve as their own health care advocate, and challenging students in the academic environment.  Personally, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Mike, a pharmacist, and their three children.  Most weekends you can find her on the sidelines of a basketball court cheering on her sons, hiking, or having an impromptu kitchen dance party.

Melissa is ecstatic to have the opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Dajani on a very passionate topic, diabetes.  She has volunteered for years at the local ADA chapter’s diabetes camp, Camp AZDA, as both a diabetic counselor and medical staff.  Melissa has lived with type 1 diabetes for almost 36 years.  She has the unique lens of both a patient and a provider.  Melissa hopes that in sharing her perspective she will help dissolve barriers for both patients and providers alike.
