Mia Derstine, MD

Mia was born in Hong Kong, but primarily grew up in Chicago and went to undergrad at Northwestern. She took a non-traditional path to med school with stops in Ecuador and Japan on the way. She completed medical school at University of Michigan and did her EM residency at the University of Chicago, where she served as chief. She recently completed her fellowship in Wilderness Medicine at the University of Colorado, where she was fortunate enough to grow her love of the outdoors and spend time as a medic at the Greenland Summit Research Station. When not in the hospital, Mia likes to get outside with her husband Brian and dog Ginger, boulder, go hiking, travel, do yoga, or stay home and cook for friends.
