Samantha Bowen, OMS

Western University COMP NW Campus

Samantha first stepped into research during her time as a scribe at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). Every day she saw the difference that their unique community-based multidisciplinary clinic (called RADIANS) was making in the lives of their patients with tumors of the central nervous system. Inspired to learn more about the impact of the clinic and find ways to improve outcomes for their patients, she joined the research team. The research team conducted retrospective clinical studies on patient outcomes at both the neurosurgery clinic and the RADIANS clinic. As a first-year medical student at Western University of Health Sciences COMP-NW she has continued to work with her OHSU team. They are currently working on a 5-year retrospective study of their RADIANS clinic satisfaction and outcomes. Samantha plans to continue to research with that team and has also joined WesternU’s research club in hopes of getting involved in more clinical research projects. She is particularly interested in continuing to look at patient outcomes and ways to improve them in community-based or rural clinics. Her interests include general surgery, women’s health, and global health.
