After receiving her B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Sheetal Chhaya attended medical school at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey School of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and remained there for a 4th year as Chief Resident. Dr. Chhaya completed her fellowship in Rheumatology at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation and then moved with her husband to Boston where she joined the faculty in the Department of Rheumatology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
After the birth of her daughter, she moved to Scottsdale, AZ where she joined a Rheumatology practice for several years, had her son in 2009 and is now back to indulging her passion for academic medicine. She is Division Chair of Rheumatology and Director of Medical Subspecialties at Valleywise Health Systems and is Assistant Professor in the Health Sciences Associated Faculty - Department of Medicine - Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Chhaya is also Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona Department of Internal Medicine. Her goal is to convince at least 1-2 residents a year to pursue the field of Rheumatology!
She is an avid, and often vocal football fan (Saints, Cardinals and Eagles all the way) and had she never pursued medicine, she would have pursued her love of acting and performing. For now, she’s keeping her day job until the kids are older and out of the house!
