Dr. Tommy Lindsey, D.O.


Tommy G. Lindsey, II, D.O., FACOS, CHSE graduated from MSU-COM in 1987 and completed his General Surgery residency in Lansing, MI in 1992. Dr. Lindsey has over twenty-three years of experience practicing as a rural surgeon, mostly in Ruidoso, New Mexico. Often the only general surgeon available in an 80-mile radius and practiced all facets of general surgery including C-sections. For many years took solo call 24/7 months on end.

 Dr. Lindsey is currently the Associate Dean of Simulation and Medical Technology and the Chair for Surgery at VCOM-Carolinas in Spartanburg, South Carolina. VCOM’s mission is to train rural primary care providers for southern Appalachia and the Delta regions. Dr. Lindsey spends most of his time teaching and advising students with rural aspirations, including rural surgery. Dr. Lindsey is passionate about the vital, importance of the rural surgeon and is working on research to document “the necessity of the rural surgeon” to rural health care and the survival of rural hospitals.     He has multiple publications on the topic of rural surgery.
