Description

Ankle injuries are among the most common musculoskeletal injuries that a primary care doctor will see. Treatment is well within the scope of family medicine. OMT is a treatment option. There are evidence-based guidelines on imaging.

Learning Objectives:

1) Learn the key findings in history and physical to appropriately diagnose ankle or associated foot injuries

2) Identify the appropriateness of imaging an ankle or foot through the use of the Ottawa rules

3) Learn the evidence behind ankle OMT for sprains and perform 5 ankle OMT techniques to help improve them through hands-on didactics.

Dr. Montgomery is a Faculty Physician at the Spartanburg Regional Family Medicine Residency. He received his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. He completed a Family Medicine Residency at Baton Rogue General Family Medicine Residency and a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Charleton Methodist Family and Sports Medicine Residency in Dallas, TX. In a volunteer capacity, Dr. Montgomery has served as the medical director for the South Carolina Taekwondo Championships and with the USA Taekwondo U.S. Open Championships. He is currently a team physician at University of South Carolina-Upstate.

Dr. Kaleigh Featherstone received her bachelors from Pfeiffer University and Doctorate of Osteopathic medicine from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Spartanburg, SC. She completed her residency training at Spartanburg Regional in 2021 alongside her sister Dr. Janna Featherstone (class of 2023). She was a chief resident, awarded the SC osteopathic DO of the year in 2021, and awarded the Resident Teacher of the Year award by the Society Teaching for Family Medicine and by her residency program. She currently practices as a Family Medicine Physician at Shiland Family Medicine in Rock Hill.

She is currently a third year family medicine resident at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. She aspires to work in an outpatient family medicine clinic when she finishes her residency in 2023.  Her professional interests include OMT, geriatrics, and pediatrics.
