Richard L. Deming, MD is Medical Director of MercyOne Cancer Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He received a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University and his medical degree from Creighton University. Dr. Deming is known in the community for the compassionate care he provides cancer patients and their families. He is involved in many national, state, and community organizations and is the recipient of numerous awards. He was awarded the Lane Adams Award by the American Cancer Society for excellence and compassion in patient care. He is the recipient of “the one hundred” Award by Massachusetts General Hospital for his work with cancer survivors. He was awarded the Iowa Cancer Champion Award for his tireless efforts in the field of advocacy. He received the Iowa Star Award from the Des Moines Register for making a measurable difference within the community and improving the quality of life for Iowans everywhere. He was awarded the St. George National Medal by the American Cancer Society for leadership in reducing the burden of cancer.
Dr. Deming is also the founder of Above + Beyond Cancer, a nonprofit organization dedicated to elevating the lives of those touched by cancer. Dr. Deming has led cancer survivors on medical missions and inspirational mind-body-spirit pilgrimages to Mount Everest, Mount Kilimanjaro, and Machu Picchu. He is inspired by the courage and compassion of his patients and their families. His greatest ambition is to encourage others to pursue lives of meaning, purpose, passion, and compassion.
Dr. Susan Beck, breast surgeon at MercyOne Katzmann Breast Care, graduated from the University of Osteopathic Medicine & Health Sciences (now Des Moines University) in 1984. She went on to complete a surgical internship and residency at Des Moines General Hospital until 1989. After completion of her residency, Dr. Beck joined a private practice surgical group in Des Moines. In 1997, she joined Mercy Surgical Affiliates. In 2006 she became Director of Katzmann Breast Care. She is board certified by the AOBS and has been a member of the American Society of Breast surgeons since 1999. Since joining Katzmann, Dr. Beck has received Breast Ultrasound Training with certification from the American Society of Breast Surgeons, (2009, recertified in 2014) as well as certification in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery, with advanced training in minimally invasive techniques in breast surgery (2006 to current). In 2016 she received certification for the Invuity Hidden ScarTM Surgery program.
Dr. Jonathan Cleaver attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine/ A.T. Still University in 2008. He completed his residency training and Mohs surgical fellowship at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville. Dr. Cleaver is currently serving as the president for the Missouri Dermatological Society, a member of the Board of Trustees for A.T. Still University, President of the Heartland Physician Corporation, and the Vice-Chair for the IPN network. He is also on the faculty for the dermatology residency training program at Northeast Regional Medical Center. Dr. Cleaver is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. He practices general dermatology and dermatological surgery in Kirksville, MO.

A native of India, Dr. Shankar Raman is board-certified in general surgery and has additional subspecialty certification in the field of colorectal surgery. He completed his medical school training from JIPMER, among the top premier medical schools in India where he also did his initial surgical residency. This was followed by a short stint of 2 years in England where he obtained his certification from the Royal College of surgeons of Edinburgh. Shortly afterwards, he moved to the United States to complete his 3rd general surgery residency in New York City followed by a fellowship in colorectal surgery at Henry Ford in Detroit. Dr. Raman established the nationally accredited rectal cancer program at MercyOne in 2018, when Mercy became the 1st non-pilot hospital, and only the 5th overall in the country to achieve such national recognition. He has developed an expertise in taking care of complex patients through minimally invasive procedures, especially robotic surgery and has the largest volume and experience of robotic colorectal surgery in Iowa. Dr. Raman’s innovative surgical techniques have been widely published. He also serves as a reviewer for the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer through the American College of surgeons. He is passionate about surgical quality and safety and has been instrumental in developing surgical bundles to improve perioperative outcomes. He is very active in the surgical societies, serves on the editorial board of the diseases of the colon and rectum, and is the former chair of the self-assessment committee of the American Society of colon and rectal surgeons. Dr. Raman, his wife and their 2 girls have called Iowa home for the last 13 years. In his spare time, Dr. Raman enjoys reading, running, spending time with family, and of course video games.
Dr. Neil Horning is a board-certified Pulmonary and Critical Care physician, originally from East Tennessee. He earned his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed his Internal Medicine residency and Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine fellowship at Barnes–Jewish Hospital/Washington University Medical Center. Since joining MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center in 1998, Dr. Horning has played a leading role in advancing lung cancer care. In 2012, he spearheaded the development of the hospital’s Lung Cancer Screening Program, followed by the establishment of the Incidental Pulmonary Nodule Program, and the MercyOne Multidisciplinary Lung Cancer Clinic.
He currently serves as Co-Medical Director of these programs, guiding their clinical operations and ongoing growth.
Nicole Kelm is a current fourth year psychiatry resident at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines. Iowa. She has a Bachelor's degree in biology from Simpson College in Indianola, and attended medical school at A.T. Still University in Kirksville. Missouri. She has a special interest in Catatonia and psychotic disorders, especially in the context on medical comorbidity such as Oncologic Pathology.

Dr. Kaushik is CDC 2019 childhood Immunization Champion Award recipient, CDC Project Firstline/American Academy of Pediatrics Infection Prevention and Control Ambassador for Iowa and Invited Visiting Faculty at Harvard; she is currently Iowa American Academy of Pediatrics Vice President and American Academy of Pediatrics National Spokesperson interviewed by several media outlets including CNN. She is Chair of Infectious Diseases Committee for Iowa AAP and Chair of IA Immunization coalition Scientific Advisory Committee, and serves on various national committees including American Academy of Pediatrics section on infectious diseases education committee and chapter Immunization representatives Steering committee. After her residency in Pediatrics from Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research India and then New Jersey, Dr. Kaushik completed her Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship from University of Texas Southwestern, Dallas, TX and earned her Master of Science degree from Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. Dr. Kaushik has published extensively and has received numerous awards and recognitions including American Academy of Pediatrics Excellence in Education Award, National Immunization Emerging Leader Award by Immunization coalitions, American Academy of Pediatrics Special Achievement Award, and has been recognized as Advancing leader in clinical care, research and advocacy for Harvard Medical School Pediatrics Leadership Program, as global expert for Sabin Immunization Advocates and recently her QI research in antimicrobial stewardship has been named among best QI research projects at Harvard.

Dr. Tamara Lyday has always loved whole body medicine. She elected to attend DMU because of her dream of treating the whole person and being able to spend more time with her patients working towards total cure. Dr. Lyday initially began her career in primary care as a family practice doctor, running a wound care center and hyperbaric chamber on the side. After a few years she transitioned to leadership role functioning as a regional medical director for her hospital system in Green Bay, WI. Due to her mother developing autoimmune disease, she became interested in acupuncture to treat her family and then transitioned into full time functional medicine. After finishing her IFM training she was approached by multiple local hospital systems to develop a functional medicine presence. After 3.5 years trying to help patients within the traditional system she transitioned to opening her own healing center.
Dr. Lyday sees patient all over the world who exhibit mystery illness - chronic fatigue, chronic pain, brain fog and she loves a good puzzle. She is one of 26 Shoemaker certified mold doctors in the world. She specializes in mold and environmental illness as well as Lyme disease and co-infections.
