Description

It is important for all physicians to be aware of the critical topics that affect healthcare that will be discussed in our state.  Our ability to practice medicine is determined by the medical practice act, governed by our state legislature, so we will touch on the topics most likely to be addressed in the current legislative session.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the importance of advocacy as a physician
  2. Learn the different ways to help advocate for our profession
  3. Become aware of the legislative issues affecting healthcare that will likely arise in the current state legislative session

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the accreditation requirements and policies of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). The S.C. Osteopathic Medical Society (SCOMS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.

Jeffrey Cashman, MS, DO

Dr. Cashman serves as the Associate Dean for OMS 4th Year Curriculum and Post-Graduate Affairs and as HRSA Primary Care Training and Enhancement: Training Primary Care Champions-Leadership Development at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine – Carolinas. He previously served as Discipline Chair of Family Medicine at VCOM-Carolinas. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor at Converse College. Prior to VCOM-Carolinas, Dr. Cashman practiced at Mary Black Family Medical Center. He is the team physician for Spartanburg High School Vikings, is the past-president of the Spartanburg County Medical Society, and serves as the South Carolina Medical Association Board of Trustees Vice-Speaker of the House of Delegates. Dr. Cashman received his medical degree from Georgia Campus – Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his Family Medicine Residency at AnMed Health in Anderson, SC. He is a member of the South Carolina Osteopathic Medical Society.
