Description

This talk will focus on understanding opioid use disorder and the unique aspects of recognizing and treating opioid use disorder in the fentanyl era. We will discuss commn myths as well as the most current guidelines for treating opioid use disorder.

Objectives for Opioid Use Disorder in the Fentanyl Era

  • Learners will understand the relationship between opioid use disorder (OUD), harm reduction, and medications for opioid use disorder.
  • Learners will identify the unique challenges and strategies to address opioid use disorder in the fentanyl era
  • Learners will describe the medications for opioid use disorder.

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Joshua Tessier, DO Related Seminars and Products


Joshua Tessier, D.O. is a graduate of Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa.  He completed his family medicine residency at Iowa Lutheran Hospital.  He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Family Medicine.

 

Dr. Tessier is faculty physician at UnityPoint Health Systems – Iowa Lutheran Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Des Moines.  He is a Regional Assistant Dean and Adjunct Clinical Faculty for Des Moines University and an Adjunct Clinical Faculty for the University of Iowa, Carver College of Medicine.

 

Dr. Tessier has a BS and MS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences and worked as a medical technologist for three years prior to attending Des Moines University-College of Osteopathic Medicine.  This continues to be a special interest area for him at the residency program.
