Description

Highlighting and techniques and resources for general practitioners to make optimal dermatologic diagnoses with skin biopsies. Effective communication with a dermatopathologist will be emphasized to achieve clinical and pathologic correlation.

  • Highlight different skin biopsy techniques and their pros and cons in various clinical situations.
  • Emphasize the critical role of communication and clinical and pathologic correlation to make accurate skin disease diagnoses.
  • Special focus on the clinical scenario of atypical pigmented lesions and avoiding misdiagnosis from improper sampling.

Jared Abbott, MD, PHD Related Seminars and Products


Dr. Abbott is originally from Northern Minnesota and attended college at Princeton University. He earned a combined MD/PhD degree from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. He completed a pathology residency at Mayo Clinic Rochester and went on to finish a dermatopathology fellowship in the Dermatology Department at Mayo Clinic Rochester. He is board-certified in Anatomic Pathology and Dermatopathology.

He has practiced in Iowa for over 17 years and has served as President of the Iowa Association of Pathology and is active at a national level with the College of American Pathologists. He is also an adjunct faculty lecturer at Des Moines University's Osteopathic and Podiatric training programs.
