Description

Tuberculosis is still here!  While not as common as it once was, it is still a concern, especially among travelers to developing countries and the immigrant population. This presentation will be a review of TB for the primary care physician.  Understand the incidence, epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of TB infection and TB disease.

Objectives:

  • Understand the Epidemiology of TB
  • Define the role of TB skin testing and IGRA blood tests in the diagnosis of TB Infection
  • Explore the treatment options for TB Infections

 

Statement of Accreditation

The Texas Osteopathic Medical Association (TOMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. TOMA designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Dr. Rob Allen is an Assistant Professor in the CASE Department at the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine. He earned his undergraduate degrees at UC Irvine, and his DO at COMP/Western University. He did his Residency in Emergency Medicine at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center/Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. Allen served in the US Air Force for 26 years and has practiced medicine on 5 Continents. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Wilderness Medical Society, and was on the Editorial Board of Wilderness Medicine, the WMS journal, for 10 years. Dr. Allen’s interests include Wilderness Medicine, Disaster Medicine and Operational/Tactical Medicine.
