Presentation Title: You are the Key to HPV Cancer Prevention: Update
Presentation Objectives: 1. Describe the burden of HPV disease and define the importance of HPV vaccination for cancer prevention. 2. Explain the new FDA Approval and status of the ACIP Recommendations to patients and parents. 3. Provide useful and compelling information about HPV vaccine to patients and parents to aid in making the decision to vaccinate.

 

Panel Title: Cases in OB/GYN: Provider Panel
Presentation Objectives: Discuss relevant cases and multiple perspectives on common OB/GYN issues.

 

The Maine Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians.The Maine Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 2.25 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Bio:  Jessica joined Maine Quality Counts in August of 2016 in the role of Quality Improvement Manager. She is currently the Clinical Lead for 2 grant projects, one of which is in its second year of increasing HPV vaccination rates with pediatric and primary care practices across the state of Maine.  Before joining Maine Quality Counts, Ms. Reed was the state of Maine Health Systems Manager for the American Cancer Society. Jessica has been a board certified Gerontological Nurse Practitioner since 1995. Her career has been dedicated to each patient's right to compassionate, comprehensive health care while also focusing on the importance of health education, cancer prevention/detection and chronic disease management within primary care health systems. She has experience in developing educational programs for patients, caregivers, clinical staff, hospitals and other various health care providers for over 25 years. She has practiced as a GNP in family practice, long-term rehabilitation hospitals, and long-term care facilities. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from St. Joseph's College and her Master of Science in Nursing Degree from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

Romeo Lucas, DO's Profile

Dr. Romeo Augusto Lucas is a board certified OB/GYN practicing at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta, Maine.  He completed his B.S. in Biology at University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio.  He has a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from National University of Health Sciences in Lombard, Illinois.  After 2 years of private chiropractic practice in New Jersey, he attended University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where he earned his Doctor of Osteopathy in 2008.  He completed a rotating internship at UMDNJ-School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford, NJ in 2009 and his OB/GYN Residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, NJ in 2013. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical OB/GYN for the Northeast Osteopathic Medical Education Network and Affiliate Clinical Faculty at University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Lucas practices general OB/GYN with specific interest and focus on pelvic pain syndromes.  He uses a multi-faceted approach to diagnose and treat complicated pelvic pain presentations.  This patient-specific approach incorporates a combination of hormonal, analgesic, neurologic, minimally invasive surgical and/or Osteopathic manual therapies to address pelvic pain. He is a member of the American Academy of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, International Pelvic Pain Society, American Osteopathic Association, America Congress of OB/GYN, and Maine Osteopathic Association.  He is married with 2 dogs, 3 children and 4 drumsets.  He speaks fluent Portuguese and Spanish but knows well it’s time he figured out French too.

Dr. Salhany is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology, currently practicing at MaineGeneral in Augusta, ME. She is a graduate of the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine, class of 2005. She completed her residency training in OB/GYN at Maine Medical Center where she served as Chief Resident. Her practice covers entire spectrum of general female reproductive health and wellness with special interest in obstetrics and the adolescent population.
