This presentation will provide useful definitions of “biologic” and “autoimmune disorders,” focusing on those with dermatological indications and manifestations. We will list the currently-available biologics for several varieties of autoimmune skin disorders, along with their recently-approved “biosimilars,” using adalimumab (which was, until COVID-19, the best-selling drug in the USA for several years running) as the index case, and show what few data exist about head-to-head comparisons of these agents. Lastly, we will discuss drugs with similar indications for skin disorders that are not properly “biologics” (although they are priced similarly!).
