Aishwarya Ayyappan, OMS III


Aishwarya Ayyappan is a third year medical student at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine and is currently rotating at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Hudson, NY. She is interested in General Surgery and Diversity in Medicine. She was a Pathways to Inclusive Healthcare scholar at UMASS Medical School and is now a scholar in the Care for the Underserved Pathways program at UNECOM. In 2018, she earned High Honors in Biology for her research on the inheritance of obesity in fruit flies. In 2021, she became a Kahn Foundation Research Fellow investigating pain sensitivity in rats after optogenetic activation of CRF+ cells. Lastly, as President of the Dancin’ Docs club she created and organized the Diversity Gala event, for which she won the Start-Up of the Year award in 2022. Today, she is here to present a case presentation on Inferior Mesenteric Vein Thrombosis as a rare complication of Acute Diverticulitis.
