Puthiery Va, DO is Maine's Director of Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention, having joined the department in August 2023. Dr. Va has over 9 years of experience in public health, epidemiology, and program development, as well as a strong background in data analytics, grant writing, and collaboration. Before joining Maine CDC, Dr. Va served as the Director of Indian Health Service, where she managed and supported the delivery of health care services to American Indian and Alaska Native communities across the country. She also completed a two-year fellowship with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and is passionate about advancing public health science and practice, and applying evidence-based solutions to address the health challenges and disparities faced by diverse and underserved populations. She holds a medical degree from the University of New England, and a master's degree in science from the State University of New York at Buffalo. She is fluent in French, and enjoys learning about different cultures and perspectives.
