I was born in New York, in the Mohawk Valley region. I earned first undergraduate degree in Dance with a minor in Psychology from SUNY Brockport in 1982. After moving to Manhattan to pursue dance theater, I completed training at the Swedish Institute School for Massage Therapy in 1990. Through the exploration of energy medicine, shiatsu and vibrational healing, I found my way to the world of childbirth education and labor support and after moving to Maine worked at Maine Medical Center as a doula, and childbirth educator and later as a doula trainer and education director for Ballard House Birth Center in Portland, ME. I established Baraka! Middle eastern Dance Ensemble and was an active performer with her musicians and dancers throughout New England. I was called to Osteopathy in 2002 and after postdoctoral training at the University of Southern Maine pursued studies at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM), graduating in 2011.  I did both Family Medicine and Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine (ONMM) residencies at Maine-Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency in Augusta, ME. I am boarded in Family, Neuromusculoskeletal and Integrative Medicine. I am presently an associate professor of family medicine for UNECOM and returned to Maine Dartmouth as faculty for Family Medicine and ONMM. His more than twenty years of national pharmacologic teaching experience regarding the diagnosis and medical treatments of depression, mood disorders, ADHD, executive function objectives, and self-management/developmental arrest challenges continues with his persistent clinical focus on dysregulated cognition/thinking, cognitive anxiety, growth, maturity, and self-mastery objectives. Interestingly, the conundrums of executive function diagnosis and medication management persist even today, after writing New ADHD Medication Rules: Brain Science and Common Sense, in 2012. Lisa Sockabasin, MS, RN Co-CEO, Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness Lisa Sockabasin is a citizen of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Motahkomikuk with extensive experience in Tribal, State, and Federal governments, non-profits, and philanthropic organizations. In her capacity as the Co-CEO of Wabanaki Public Health and Wellness (WPHW), Lisa collaborates with tribal leadership, the WPHW team, and federal and philanthropic partners to address systemic inequities experienced by Wabanaki communities in Maine and to develop and implement culturally based programs that respond to the needs of our communities.

Lisa has over 20 years of experience addressing inequities experienced by and providing opportunities to tribal populations. Prior to joining WPHW, Lisa served as the Director of the Office of Health Equity in the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, as an epidemiologist in the Infectious Disease Program for the State of Maine, as a nurse epidemiologist with the North American Indian Center of Boston, Inc., and served for two decades as coordinator to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard’s Four Directions Summer Research Program.

Lisa holds a B.S. in Biology from the University of Maine, a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Maine, and an M.S. in Health Policy and Management from the University of Southern Maine. She holds a graduate certificate in Non-Profit Management and serves on several boards including Maine Philanthropy Center, Planned Parenthood of New England, the ACLU of Maine, and the Maine Development Foundation.

Joel Kase, DO Related Seminars and Products

Dr. Joel Kase is an osteopathic physician who throughout his career has beenactive in clinical practice, administrative operations, advocacy and policydevelopment, and medical education.

Dr. Kase has worked clinically in rural emergency medicine for 15 years, and prior to that, practiced the entire spectrum of osteopathic family medicine, including inpatient hospital and skilled nursing care, home health visits, obstetrics, and osteopathic manipulation. He is double boarded in Family Medicine and Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine.

Dr. Kase currently practices clinical medicine full time. He previously served as the Emergency Department Director for the VA Maine Healthcare System, and prior to that as the Director of Medical Education for the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Dr. Kase is a member of the AOA’s Bureau on Federal Health Programs, and currently serves as Chair of the AOA’s Council on State Health Affairs. He is also a Past-President of the Maine Osteopathic Association, and serves as the Chair of the Maine delegation to the AOA House of Delegates. A graduate of the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine, Dr. Kase completed a family medicine residency as well as an academic fellowship in obstetrics through the teaching hospitals of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. Additionally, Dr. Kase attended the Harvard School of Public Health, where he completed a Master’s Degree in Public Health with a concentration in Health Care Management and Policy.

Joel Wirth, MD Related Seminars and Products

Dr. Wirth is Associate Clinical Professor (Medicine) at Tufts University School of Medicine at the Portland, Maine, campus. He serves as the Director of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Maine Medical Center, where he is also the Research Director of their Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program. He is on the Board of Directors of Chest Medicine Associates. Dr. Wirth is a national leader and clinical researcher in pulmonary hypertension, currently serving on the Board of Trustees of the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and chaired their Board of Directors overseeing standards and accreditation of Pulmonary Hypertension Care Centers throughout the United States. Dr. Wirth is also the Clinical Director of Maine Medical Center’s Pulmonary Hypertension Program. He is a graduate of McGill University Faculty of Medicine in Montreal, QC, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the Graduate Hospital of the University Pennsylvania. Dr. Wirth completed his Fellowship in Pulmonary Disease and Critical Care Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine and Yale-New Haven Hospital.
