Description

Objectives:

  • Participants will consider the characteristics and regionality of environmental emergency conditions and recognize when these occur in the rural emergency medicine practice environment.
  • Participants will be able to identify the chronic conditions which both complicate and increase the risk of environmental emergencies.
  • Participants will expand their differential diagnoses to include environmental factors.

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Dr. Brown worked in prehospital emergency care and EMS education in central Iowa before completing his medical education and family medicine residency.  He currently practices rural emergency medicine at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa.

 

He has had a lifelong interest in outdoor activities which has led him to pursue additional experiences in wilderness and environmental medicine.  Dr. Brown is a frequent instructor on wilderness and environmental medicine topics for resident and student electives and student interest groups.  He is a Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine.
