Description

This session will cover different forms of skin cancers that primary providers will encounter in their clinical practicer. Dr. Cleaver will discuss identification, pathophysiology, and appropriate treatment for a variety of skin malignancies.

Objectives:

  • Identify and differentiate common types of skin cancer (basal cell, squamous cell, and melanoma)
  • Apply evidence-based guidelines for skin cancer screening, including when and how to perform full skin exams and which patients should be referred to dermatology
  • Recognize high-risk lesions using clinical tools such as the ABCDE criteria for melanoma and dermoscopy fundamentals, improving early detection and diagnostic accuracy
  • Initiate appropriate management of suspicious lesions, including when to perform a biopsy, discuss treatment options, and coordinate multidisciplinary care when needed

The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credit and will report CME and specialty credit commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

Cleaver Dermatology


Dr. Jonathan Cleaver attended Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine/ A.T. Still University in 2008.  He completed his residency training and Mohs surgical fellowship at the Northeast Regional Medical Center in Kirksville.   Dr. Cleaver is currently serving as the president for the Missouri Dermatological Society, a member of the Board of Trustees for A.T. Still University, President of the Heartland Physician Corporation, and the Vice-Chair for the IPN network. He is also on the faculty for the dermatology residency training program at Northeast Regional Medical Center. Dr. Cleaver is board certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. He practices general dermatology and dermatological surgery in Kirksville, MO.
