Description

Objectives:

-Following this lecture attendees will have a better understanding of Ayurveda as a complete traditional system of
preventative medicine
-Following this presentation attendees will list three common philosophies shared by Ayurveda and Osteopathic medicine
-Following this lecture participants will be able to explain the role that a healthy digestive system has on pain

The Maine Osteopathic Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The Maine Osteopathic Association designates this program for a maximum of 1.0 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency Program


Dr Josie Conte is faculty member with Maine- Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency and the ONMM3 program, and cares for patients in the Waterville clinic and inpatient at the Alfond Center for Health, Maine General in Augusta. Her practice reflects traditional models of health and wellness including Osteopathy.

Dr. Conte has had the honor of training family medicine residents and Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine residents first at Central Maine Family Medicine Residency since 2015 and joined the faculty at Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine residency and their ONMM3 residency in January 2021.

She is a 2011 graduate of UNECOM and completed residencies in Family Medicine Residency and an NMM Plus One Residency with Maine Dartmouth Family Medicine Residency in Augusta, ME. She is boarded in Family Medicine, Osteopathic Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Integrative Medicine. Dr. Conte is Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine at the University Of New England College Of Osteopathic Medicine.

She presently serves on the Maine Osteopathic Association Board of Directors where she is the co-chair of the Program and Education Committee. She is a Board member for the Coyote Institute for Studies in Change and Transformation.

Josie is a Yoga Instructor RYT-200 with training as an Ayurveda Yoga specialist. She recently completing the Ayurveda Health Counselor training program with Boston Ayurveda School. She is presently studying with Yoga Veda Institute in the Ayurveda practitioner program. She practices Integrative Structural Acupuncture as well as Cherokee bodywork.

She lives at the edge of Maranacook Lake in Winthrop with her husband, Nick and Gilbert, the wonder dog. Her two adult children live in Maine as well.

Kim Valeri Povey is Board Certified through the National Ayurveda Medical Association (NAMA) as an Ayurvedic Practitioner (C.A.P). She is a MA registered Community Health Worker (C.W.H.), a certified Yoga Therapist (A.Y.T., C-IAYT), and a 2024 doctoral candidate for Doctor of Ayurveda Medicine (A.D.) with a specialty in Ayurvedic Psychology (Satvavajaya Chikitsa), Ayurveda Yoga Therapy, and Family Health. Ms. Povey has been training Ayurvedic Wellness Professionals, Yoga Therapists, and Yoga Teachers for decades through prestigious schools around the Country. She is a leader in the field of Ayurveda and is passionate about making Ayurveda accessible in the community. With forty years in the industry, Kim is the Founder and Owner of Yogaspirit Studios; the former C.E.O. of Kerala Ayurveda Academy, U.S.A and former Academic and Clinical Director of Boston Ayurveda School. As a mentor for others in the profession, she is shaping the next generation of natural health professionals to impact the direction of complementary healthcare outcomes. She is passionate about Ayurveda’s role in integrative healthcare. As Founder of Veda Vita Family Health and Wellness, she uses the timeless teachings of yoga and Ayurveda, to deliver client-centered care by providing Ayurvedic traditional herbal preparations, lifestyle medicine and yoga therapy protocols which supports the interconnected biopsychosocial and spiritual holistic healing, that the modern world needs now. Kim is a climate advocate and natural health activist. Her work Greta Thunberg's Tweets: A Maiden's Message to People on the Earth has been displayed at Lesley University's Raizes Gallery at the Lundar Art Center, where she has given talks on youth activism, climate justice, and citizen engagement. Kim was instrumental in forming and lobbying a Bill in the Massachusetts legislature to support the protection and access to complementary and alternative healthcare. She lives on Boston’s North Shore in Cape Ann with her husband Jim and their blended family of five adult children. Kim is a musician and bare-bow Olympic Recurve Archer
