Cynthia (Cindy) Penkala, CMM, CMPE, CMSCS, CPOM is the Senior Director of the Physician Services Department at the AOA. In her role she provides and oversees the guidance provided AOA Affiliates, osteopathic physicians and their practices on issues impacting the daily operations of the medical practice. She raises awareness of issues that may impact osteopathic physicians and their practices and administers the development of member education to assist physicians. With over 40 years working in the health care industry including; 14+ years of medical association experience, 18 + years managing physician practices, owning her own billing and consulting service, and an additional 10 years working in the medical field in general, Cindy uses her versatile skill set to help physicians and their practices be successful. She does this through a continual focus on service offerings, investigation, education, process improvement and a solid background in healthcare services, organizational management, medical billing, and personnel recruiting. Dr. Carr graduated from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and residencies at Metropolitan Hospital and Albert Einstein Medical Center, both in Philadelphia. The majority of his practice as a Cardiologist and General Internist was in the US Air Force Medical Service where he served as a practicing physician, Chief of the Medical Staff, Department Chair and Chief Consultant to the USAF Surgeon General for Internal Medicine Services, Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences School of Medicine. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and American College of Cardiology. He currently is the principal at Carr Medical Consulting, LLC specializing in writing appeals and testifying at administrative law judge hearings. Dr. Carr and his wife Rose Mary just recently relocated to Virginia Beach to be closer to his grandchildren.

Sofia Abraham-Hardee D.O/ PhD received her B.S in Biology with a minor in Biochemistry from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She completed a post baccalaureate program from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. She received her osteopathic medical degree from the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2007. She also completed her PhD in International Health Education from Virginia Tech in 2008. She completed her pediatric internship and residency at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania in June 2011. Dr. Abraham-Hardee is a board certified pediatrician and Medical Director at New Beginning Pediatrics in Blacksburg, VA and is Department Chair of Pediatrics and Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Virginia campus.

Dr. Dickens attended the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine in Lewisburg, WV. He completed an Osteopathic Internship at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, NY and a Family Medicine Residency at the Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. He worked as a family practice physician at Group Health Permanente in Olympia, WA, and returned to Roanoke, VA in for the same position with the Carilion Clinic until March 2014 when he joined the staff at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, VA Campus.

Joy Elliott, DO - Dr. Elliott graduated from the West Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine at VCU Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program in Newport News, Virginia. A former Clinical Instructor at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, currently Dr. Elliott is the Osteopathic Program Director at Riverside Family Medicine Residency Program.

Dr. Hardee earned his medical degree at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg Va. He continued his education at Geisinger Medical Center and Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery in Family Medicine. Dr. Bolin graduated from the Medical Scholars Program at the University of Illinois in 1996. After a family medicine residency through Michigan State, he completed a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellowship at University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – St Margaret Hospital – in the department of orthopedics working with the University of Pittsburgh athletic teams and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Dr. Bolin is the Founder and Medical Director of Performance Medicine of Southwest Virginia. He has served as Team Physician for Virginia Tech Athletics, and currently is the Head Team Physician for Radford University and Salem High School and Medical Director for the Roanoke College Athletic Training Program. Dr. Christopher Yeary D.O. is a graduate from UP-KYCOM Class of 2012. He completed his internship and surgical residency at Garden City, Michigan graduating in 2018. Michael Moore, MD an internist/nephrologist, who has specialized in hypertension management and preventive cardiovascular health program development, is the Director of Continuing Medical Education at Sovah Health in Danville, VA. He is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at the VCOM and LUCOM and the Hypertension and Vascular Research Center of Wake Forest University School of Medicine where he was previously a Teacher of the Year. Dr. Moore represented the American Heart Association on the NIH National High Blood Pressure Education Program and participated in developing the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Joint National Committee Reports on the Detection, Evaluation and Management of High Blood Pressure (JNCs). Jacob is a PhD student in the Translational Biology, Medicine, and Health program at Virginia Tech. His work is focused on the epidemiology of primary immune disorders (PIs) in rural America, unique rural health disparities that this population faces, and advancing PI education in rural spaces. Outside of the lab he serves as a student representative on the Virginia Rural Health Association Board of Directors, is involved in advancing science advocacy as a member of the National Science Policy Network’s D.C.-MD-VA coalition and the VA Public Health Association’s Policy & Advocacy Committee. He has also been inducted in the Phi Sigma Biological Honors Society at Virginia Tech. Additionally, he serves his community through children’s ministry at the Pittsylvania Christian Service Camp, as well as Mount Ivy Christian Church in rural Virginia. Dr. Sands grew up on a small farm in southwest Virginia, where he enjoyed exploring the woods and fishing on the river. He attended Randolph–Macon College in Ashland, where he studied economics and business, and received his medical degree and an MBA from Lincoln Memorial University in Tennessee.
He completed his urology residency training at Michigan State University and an endourology and minimally invasive surgery fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He then joined the faculty at Washington University as an assistant professor of urology for several years before coming to UVA Health.

Brooke Wehausen, DO—Dr. Wehausen is a Board-Certified Dermatologist and Dermatologic Surgeon. She is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. She graduated from Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg and completed her Traditional Rotating Internship at Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery, then went on to complete her dermatology residency at Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where she served as chief resident. r. Jamison received her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree at the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy—Chapel Hill, NC.
