- Short Description:
- Mental health conditions have recently become the leading cause of maternal mortality in the United States. According to maternal mortality review committees, 100% of pregnancy-related mental health deaths are preventable. Yet maternal mental health remains consistently underdiagnosed and undertreated—often due to clinician concerns about fetal exposure to psychiatric medications. This presentation will explore the critical importance of screening for maternal mental health conditions and providing timely, evidence-based treatment to improve outcomes for both mother and baby.

- Short Description:
- Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne illness in the United States, with an estimated 476,000 cases annually. The incidence continues to rise due to expanding tick habitats, increased outdoor activity, and climate change. Despite its prevalence, there are persistent gaps in awareness and timely diagnosis among both healthcare providers and the public. Misdiagnosis or delayed treatment can result in chronic symptoms, including neurological and musculoskeletal complications. Many clinicians and students report uncertainty regarding diagnostic criteria, interpretation of serologic testing, and appropriate antibiotic regimens. Additionally, there is ongoing controversy surrounding post-treatment Lyme disease syndrome, making evidence-based education critical. Providing an updated lecture on Lyme disease will equip learners with the latest guidelines for prevention, early recognition, and management, ultimately improving patient outcomes and reducing long-term complications.
