Learning Objectives:
• Identify common ophthalmic conditions encountered in primary care.
• Review initial management strategies for these ophthalmic conditions.
• Recognize when referral to an ophthalmologist is appropriate.
• Promote effective collaboration between primary care and ophthalmology to improve patient outcomes.
The Iowa Osteopathic Medical Association is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians and designates this program for a maximum of .75 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician's participation in this activity.

After Graduating with a BS in Biology from Villanova University I attended Hahnemann University in Philadelphia earning my MD then entering Ophthalmology residency at St Francis Medical Center in Pittsburgh graduating in 1987. I then started a solo private practice in General Ophthalmology and practiced for 37 years before retiring from Clinical care in July 2024. During my career i offered comprehensive medical and surgical care for diseases including cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, glaucoma and refractive. In 2005 I built and founded a multispecialty surgery center for which I continue to provide management services.
