- *** Please note this program was a part of the MOA 's 2025 Midwinter Symposium. You will not want to choose this program if you completed this individual program as part of the MOA 2025 Midwinter Symposium. *** Mainers are living longer, healthier, more productive lives than ever before, but our negative narratives about aging and being old haven’t kept pace. Research has shown that positive attitudes about aging can result in longer and healthier lives, while ageist attitudes are damaging. Getting appropriate quality care that is free of bias is an important part of maintaining good health long into later life. Healthcare providers are in a unique position to influence people both to promote age positivity and to reduce the negative impacts of ageism. This presentation will detail what it will take to shift the narrative about the value and diversity of older people, to grow age-positivity, and to implement ageism disrupters at the practice level.

- Short Description:
- Research confirms that trauma is pervasive among professionals and patients. Traumatic events can dysregulate the stress response system and be associated with psychiatric and physical disorders. When a patient has a trauma history, but it is not addressed, it may explain why medical conditions remain refractory. Additionally, health care services and clinical medicine can be retraumatizing and may cause some patients not to engage in needed health care. Thus, it is important for physicians to become trauma informed: understand the role trauma plays in their patients’ lives, know how to screen for it, how to respond to it and when to refer, as well as be aware of evidenced based treatments.

- Short Description:
- In the current healthcare landscape, physicians are on the front lines of addressing the holistic health of their patients. Recognizing the impact of social media on children and adolescents allows physicians to provide comprehensive care that considers both physical and mental well-being. By being well-informed about social media use and its associated risks, physicians can effectively engage with patients and families, provide appropriate guidance, and identify potential concerns early on. This topic will cover evidence-based guidelines, practical strategies, and resources that physicians can integrate into their clinical practice to address the challenges of social media use. By gaining knowledge in this area, physicians can actively contribute to the overall well-being and digital health of the young individuals they care for.
