Chest pain and suspected acute coronary syndrome/myocardial infarct is a common presentation to emergency rooms. Clinicians must be cognizant of the use of high-sensitivity cardiac troponin assays for the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction to identify patients in the emergency department who are low risk and could be directly discharged, reducing unnecessary hospital admissions with benefits for patients and providers.
At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:
- Describe high sensitivity troponin levels in a clinical decision pathway for rapid risk assessment and triage of the chest pain patient.
- Identify high-risk individual with “normal” high sensitivity troponin values.
- Use the HEAR(T) score in intermediate risk patients.
