Description

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:

  1. Identify the evolving terminology and classification of fatty liver disease, including the transition from NAFLD/NASH to MASLD/MASH, and understand the implications for diagnosis and patient communication.
  2. Recognize the clinical presentation, risk factors, and diagnostic tools for MASLD and MASH, including noninvasive assessments like FIB-4, ELF, FibroScan, and MRE, especially in patients with cardiometabolic conditions.
  3. Evaluate current and emerging treatment strategies for MASH and associated cirrhosis, including lifestyle interventions, pharmacologic therapies such as Resmetirom and Tirzepatide, and the importance of screening for hepatocellular carcinoma.

ACCREDITATION

The Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. POMA designates this activity for a maximum of 1 Category 1-A AOA CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits to the AOA commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Fatty Liver” now “MASH & MASLD” is a board certified gastroenterologist at Blake Gastroenterology Associates, LLC in Philadelphia. A graduate of the University of Mississippi and a 1989 graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), he completed an internship at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Philadelphia, and an internal medicine residency and gastroenterology fellowship at PCOM. A fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists, Dr. Blake is a board member of POMA and a member of the American Osteopathic Association, the National Osteopathic Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Society of Gastroenterology and the Medical Society of Eastern Pennsylvania.
