Description

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe the Pathophysiology and Clinical Features of Irritable Bowel Syndrome
    Learners will be able to explain the underlying mechanisms of IBS, including its classification as a functional gastrointestinal disorder, and recognize its diverse symptomatology across IBS subtypes (IBS-C, IBS-D, and mixed).
  2. Develop a Diagnostic Approach for Patients Presenting with IBS Symptoms
    Learners will understand how to evaluate patients with suspected IBS, including history-taking, exclusion of organic disease, and use of clinical decision support tools to guide diagnosis and management.
  3. Formulate Individualized Treatment Plans for IBS Based on Subtype and Patient Response
    Learners will be able to select appropriate therapeutic strategies—including dietary modifications, pharmacologic treatments, and behavioral interventions—tailored to IBS subtype and patient-specific factors.

ACCREDITATION

The Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. POMA designates this activity for a maximum of 1 Category 1-A AOA CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits to the AOA commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Eric M. Ghiraldi, DO, “Kidney Stone Treatment and Prevention,” and “Urinary Incontinence,”  is a physician with Fox Chase Cancer Center in Rockledge, Pennsylvania and Temple Health, Fort Washington. Board certified in urology, Dr. Ghiraldi is a graduate of New York Institute of Technology and a 2015 graduate of New York College of Osteopathic Medicine in Old Westbury, New York.  He completed a urology residency at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia, and an endourology fellowship at Yale School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut.
