Parasomnias and Restless Leg Syndrome

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:

1. Differentiate Between Types of Parasomnias and Their Clinical Presentations
   Learners will be able to classify parasomnias into NREM and REM-related disorders, describe their characteristic features (e.g., sleepwalking, night terrors, REM sleep behavior disorder), and recognize associated risks and comorbidities.
2. Assess and Diagnose Restless Legs Syndrome and Periodic Limb Movement Disorder
   Learners will understand the diagnostic criteria for RLS and PLMD, identify common symptoms and triggers, and evaluate differential diagnoses through clinical interviews and sleep studies.
3. Formulate Evidence-Based Management Plans for Parasomnias and RLS
   Learners will be able to recommend nonpharmacologic and pharmacologic treatment strategies, including sleep hygiene, iron supplementation, and appropriate medication use, tailored to pediatric and adult populations.

ACCREDITATION

The Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. POMA designates this activity for a maximum of 1 Category 1-A AOA CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits to the AOA commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.
