Description

At the conclusion of this session, the participant should be able to:

  1. Differentiate between types of sleep apnea—obstructive, central, complex, and mixed—and describe their diagnostic approaches including polysomnography and drug-induced sleep endoscopy.
  2. Identify anatomical contributors to obstructive sleep apnea and evaluate both non-surgical and surgical treatment options, including nasal, jaw, throat, and nerve stimulation procedures.
  3. Assess patient selection criteria and clinical indications for advanced surgical interventions such as maxillomandibular advancement, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty, and hypoglossal nerve stimulation.

ACCREDITATION

The Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Association (POMA) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. POMA designates this activity for a maximum of 1 Category 1-A AOA CME credits and will report CME and specialty credits to the AOA commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

Valeri L. Roth, DO, FAOCOO, “Surgical Therapies for Obstructive Sleep Apnea,” and “Allergic Rhinitis,” is an otolaryngologist and medical director/CEO of Benesque Wellness, Inc. in Hermitage, PA. Dr. Roth is a graduate of Grove City College and 1992 graduate of PCOM. She completed an internship at PCOM, a general surgery residency at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey in Stratfor, NJ, and an otolaryngology/facial plastics residency at PCOM.
